CTV Northern Ontario: New Manitoulin Adventure Map App

A new app aims to promote tourism on Manitoulin Island with a focus on local food and drink, accommodations, hiking trails, landmarks and more.

For visitors, it’s a way to plan their next Manitoulin adventure; for companies, it is a marketing tool.

There are 150 places available for businesses to be featured on the app, but only until May 5. Officials said that due to the challenges facing businesses during the pandemic, it will be free this year.

Nishin Meawasige, a partner at Manitoulin Brewing Company, said the app will benefit businesses and visitors.

Rewarded with points

“When people use the app and they are near that business and they visit that business, they will be rewarded with points and they will accumulate those points,” Meawasige said.

“Basically it’s called nurturing the experience and we want to kind of reward people so they can take those points and redeem them for rewards, whether it’s product discounts or free promotional items.”

The Manitoulin Adventure Map app was created by the Manitoulin Brewing Company, with assistance from the Mnidoo Mnising/Manitoulin Island, Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre, Destination Manitoulin Island, Destination Northern Ontario and Aboriginal Tourism Ontario.

In addition to the app, the company will launch its new Manitoulin Mixed Adventure Kit at Ontario’s LCBOs in May, just in time for the long weekend.

It will include a QR code where customers can scan and download the app.
