All new creatures are coming to the Fjordur map in ARK: Survival Evolved

Ark: Survival Evolved only recently released a major official map, Lost Island, but already another is slated for release in the coming months. Fjordur, like Lost Island, is a fan-made map made by a dedicated team of Ark gamers that has received official Ark Devs approval. Featuring a colder Nordic-inspired map with tundra and large icy expanses, it’s a departure from most other maps in the game. With an expected June release date for the expansion, the map has recently went on a community vote to see what exciting new creatures would be featured.

A selection of different fan-made creations were competed, with a variety of weird and wonderful designs. In a series of nine rounds, the favorites were pushed out and the stragglers knocked out, leaving the top two as undisputed favourites.

Desmodus Draculae

A massive and towering bat that can be ridden, the Desmodus Draculae won the vote by landslide with over 60,000 votes. Official art and the bat’s brief haven’t been done by the Ark developers themselves yet, but the original artwork suggests an aggressive herd-based nocturnal creature, much like a Megalosaurus. The details further suggest that this creature can pin its prey and drain both its health and stamina, living on a blood diet that grants it enhanced health regeneration. They also appear to have a nighttime buff when tamed, and a slower daytime flight speed alongside an increase in stamina consumption. On top of that they also have the echolocation of a bat as both a radar and a defensive mechanism much like the Sinomacrops but on a much more terrifying scale.

Carcharodontosaurus

Again with no official record just yet, the concept of this dino is subject to change, but based on current information we know that the Carcharodonto, as it is to be called in-game, is a massive creature that rivals with Rexes and Gigas. in the force and size of the bite. Although slightly smaller than the Giga, the Carcharodonto is faster and from the record appears to be capable of doing bleed damage. Due to its small size, it lacks the HP pool of the Giga and Rex, but it seems to be able to outrun both and is a significant hunting threat to any smaller Survivor or Dino. Although the Carcharodonto didn’t win the competition, the developers confirmed that it would be added to the roster as a free update later this year.

Appearing as a cross between a large pig and a dog, the Andrewsarchus is a large creature that can move at incredibly high speeds when needed. A territorial beast, the Andrewsarchus is susceptible to charging similar to Trikes and can swim quickly and efficiently. The official record also states that this creature is often overpowered by Honey when enraged. Once domesticated, it seems this large creature has many functions, ranging from the ability to harvest resources from the ocean floor through its ability to sink on its saddle, to a traveling minigun turret in the days of PvP. .

Fjordhawk

A smaller-based animal, the Fjordhawk is meant to be a shoulder pet that rides with its tamer. They will follow their prey, both animal and survivor until they see a moment to attack. The Fjordhawk, once domesticated, is a utilitarian bird, reveling in fetch games. Capable of stalking wounded prey and even collecting items, the Fjordhawk functions effectively when trained. It can also save your inventory if your survivor meets a deadly end; once you have respawned, the Fjordhawk will return your items to you after finding you.
