Temporary closure planned for Boney Falls boat launch

MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) – The Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) boat launch facility at Dam No. 4 on the Boney Falls Reservoir will be temporarily closed to the public on Monday, June 6.

The closure is necessary to support planned maintenance and facility improvements that will be completed by UPPCO this summer. Access to the campground near Dam #4 will remain open but will occasionally be delayed.

“We ask the public to avoid the Boney Falls boat launch on June 6,” said Brett French, vice president of business development and communications. “Crews will be working in the area to assemble a construction barge and lay out the materials needed to build the upgrades that will be made this summer. As an alternative, we ask that recreational enthusiasts use the boat launch located near Dam #3 on the Escanaba River to ensure public safety.

Construction activities are expected to take place between June 7 and August 19, Monday through Friday, and additional intermittent delays may occur near the Boney Falls boat launch. UPPCO also reminds the public to be safe when entertaining near company hydroelectric facilities and to obey all posted warning signs.
