Princess Sets Love Boat Theme Cruise; Early 2022 Sailing pays tribute to Gavin MacLeod

(4:40 PM EDT) – “Come aboard, we’ll be waiting for you” … on a special Love boat Theme cruise with most of the original cast from the popular 70’s and 80’s TV series, on Princess Cruises.

The week-long cruise to the Mexican Riviera will take place February 26 – March 5 aboard the Majestic Princess, departing from the Port of Los Angeles.

The Sail will feature a special tribute to actor Gavin MacLeod, who played the iconic role of Captain Stubing in the series. MacLeod, who was a Princess Cruises Brand Ambassador for over 35 years, died in May 2021, aged 90.

The rest of the original cast – Jill Whelan (Vicki), Cynthia Lauren Tewes (Julie McCoy), Bernie Kopell (Doc), Fred Grandy (Gopher) and Ted Lange (Isaac) – will all be on board for the themed cruise.

During the cruise, the cast will share the favorite members of the show and participate in different guest activities. These include the sailaway part; a special inspired by the 1970s Love boat Disco night on the bridge; a vow renewal ceremony; Love boat anecdotes; initiate photo ops; Love boat– themed menus and cocktails and Love boat episodes aired on the upper deck with Movies Under the Stars.

The cruise takes place on MacLeod’s birthday, February 28 – Leap Day – and there will be a celebration in his honor, as well as a Q&A with the cast.

“Meeting with the cast for this very special theme Love boat cruising and celebrating the show’s lasting impact with guests will certainly be nostalgic, fun and incredibly memorable, ”said Whelan, who is the current Celebration Ambassador for Princess.

“While we always love connecting with the fans, this cruise will be very special as we will also be celebrating the life and career of Gavin, our fearless frontman, who not only played my dad on TV but was also a true father figure for me beyond the show. “

Cruise ports – Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas – will also be nostalgic for Love boat fans, as the 10-year-old TV series was often set on the Mexican Riviera.

Beyond ports and distribution, Princess Cruises has embraced the show on several occasions since it aired. The entire cast served as godfather and godmother for two ships, the Dawn Princess in 1997 and the Regal Princess in 2014. They recently sailed together on a return cruise in 2015 which celebrated the line’s 50th anniversary. .
