The ability to ride animals in Fortnite was introduced at the start of Chapter 3 Season 3, giving players a new way to traverse the ever-changing island.
So far you can only ride a wolf or a boar, as those are the only large animals that roam the map, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Raptors return to Fortnite soon.
You can find information about animal places and how to ride animals in fortnite below, including handy information on how to control your new best friend.

Fortnite animal locations
You will first need to find an animal in Fortnite before you can ride it. As in previous seasons, boars are most often found in fenced areas on the outskirts of certain locations, such as Shifty Shafts, but can also be found in and around wooded areas. This season they also seem to be roaming the snow-capped mountains around Logjam Lumberyard.
Wolves can also be found in and around wooded areas, and are more likely to roam in named locations near woods. We found wolves most consistently by The Daily Bugle so far.
An animal’s location is not guaranteed, however, as they like to roam the map throughout a match. We recommend finding a boar in a paddock in a place like Shifty Shafts before another player does.
Chapter 3 Season 3 has arrived – bringing with it a new Battle Pass, Character Collection, Map Slots, and Victory Umbrella! You can now ride animals, find Reality Seeds across the island, and Victory Crowns are back. If you’re looking for a specific Battle Pass skin, it’s a good idea to know how to get XP fast.
How to ride animals in Fortnite
Now that you have found a wolf or boar, you need to know how to ride an animal in Fortnite. The good news is that it’s not nearly as laborious as before to tame them!
To ride an animal in Fortnite, just jump on its back. No additional input is needed, just hit the jump button and aim for the animal’s back to start riding it for as long as you want, provided an opponent doesn’t eliminate it.
While riding an animal, you can shoot and throw objects as needed. You can even swim on the back of a wolf or boar, so you never have to leave your new friend behind. As a bonus, you’ll also get 80 XP for each animal you ride.
Animals are also quite fast when sprinting, but probably won’t get you across the map as quickly as a good vehicle. They are, however, much better at navigating rough terrain like mountainous areas, as you can jump them over obstacles.
When you need to stop riding an animal, you can either double jump or tap the “Dismount” prompt shown in the lower left corner of the screen. Once you’re ready to climb back up, simply go back to the wolf or boar and jump onto its back again.
